VUNDU

(Heterobranchus longifilis)

The Vundu is a catfish, It belongs to the order Siluriformes, It is on the African continent ( Niger, Senegal, Egypt, Burundi, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia ). It is also called the Cur, Legend the One. The Vundu catfish can survive out of water for long periods of time. This species can live up 12 years.

The Vundu is the freshwater species largest Southern Africa, reaching up 150 cm long. The maximum recorded weight is 55,0 kg. Their chins almost reach the origin of the pelvic fin. Vundu color is light to dark olive coffee on its dorsal surface, getting softer in the middle of the body of a light brown. His belly is whitish. The fins are generally light brown.

The Vundu prefer lakes and deep rivers like the Nile, and Congo river system. Also located on Lake Kariba Zambeze, Tanganyika y Edward. Generally are more active at night to feed on fish, small vertebrates, and waste.
